Fall Back and other things…

This weekend we have a time change where we fall back, gaining an extra hour of sleep. I’m not a fan of time changes (there are STILL only 24 hours in a day, right?) but I am always happy to be back on my correct time.

But as I turned over my calendar to November, I realized my next release will be out in about a month. So much to do to prepare for a new release! Have you seen the cover yet? Here it is!

Isn’t it sweet?

This book is completely different than my fairy tale series. It’s a sweet romance that takes place in the North Carolina mountains. I hope you will love the little town, and the people I created for this book.

Happy Anniversary!

This weekend, my husband and I celebrated our 29th anniversary. It’s been a busy and stressful year. On the health side, we’ve had a death in the family, broken bones, surgery and rehab. I’ve also signed two contracts, agreeing to produce four books, two of which have 2014 release dates.

So, my husband and I needed to de-stress, and disconnect from the world. We rented a cabin for the weekend. Isn’t it cute?

What do you do to de-stress?

What’s a writer to do?

I’ll admit it. I’m very excited to see my book out there. I LOVE my cover. Isn’t it gorgeous?

But reality is here.

In between marketing and promoting my book, and riding on the waves of euphoria of seeing my work in print, I have another book to write.

My deadline for book two isn’t for a couple of months, but each day the gap narrows. And hey, the last quarter of the year is always hectic for me. What to do about Thanksgiving? And even though I always intend to get my Christmas cards mailed out early – or even on time – the holidays always still creep up on me.

I don’t know how my mom managed to all those things…wait. Yes, I do. She made lists upon lists. She wrote notes on her calendar. And she shopped for Christmas gifts in July.

I’m not quite that organized, but I do take advantage of automation. So as my deadline AND the holidays approach, (I can’t believe I saw Christmas things on store shelves in September), I will focus on my next manuscript. I’d rather turn it in early than agonize over my computer at three a.m.

Who knows? Maybe I won’t send out Christmas cards this year…but my manuscript will be complete! Because what does a writer do when she finishes her book? She begins the next one.

What’s your BHAG?

In what seems a million years ago, I was asked the above question. What’s your BHAG?

I didn’t know what he meant, so he explained it meant, Big Hairy Awesome Goal. “Oh, that’s easy,” I said. “I want to be a published author.”

But wanting something, and having it actually happen are two different things. It isn’t enough to want something. While on Twitter the other day, I saw a statement someone made. I don’t know the author, but this is basically what they said. “Anything worth having doesn’t come easy, and anything that comes easy, isn’t worth anything.”

I thought, how true.

I think we should all have a BHAG. I believe we need something to strive for, something to work for.

What are you working for today?

My cover reveal for The Crystal Slipper!

Is this not the most beautiful cover you’ve ever seen?

This week begins a series of exciting events. Monday, my first full-length novel comes out, and on September 25 I’m being interviewed. Here’s the link to RSVP here. http://bittenbybooks.com/?p=80504

I’m so excited I can barely contain myself! But I couldn’t have gotten this far without the help of so many people. Here are just a few people I’d like to thank…

My critique partners: You are awesome ladies, flat out telling me when something doesn’t work. Even if I have to revise a chapter ten times.

My writing chapter: At First Coast Romance Writers, we have awesome speakers and I’ve learned a ton from their workshops. I was a member for two years but never made it to the meetings. Spending the money on writing associations doesn’t help if you don’t take advantage of what they have to offer. Kind of like buying a treadmill doesn’t help you lose weight. You have to USE it.

My editor at Entangled Publishing. Always encouraging and enthusiastic, I love working with you!

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for. I’m so excited! I know Mom is cheering me on from Heaven…This is how she looked the day I got my first contract. Love you Mom.

Never Forget

I won’t post pictures of 13 years ago, or re-live the horrors of that day. Like many across our nation, I watched the news perpetually, wanting to know why?

But I merely post that I will never forget that day, or the innocent men, women, and children who died that day. My prayers go out to their families.

God Bless America!

Countdowns

As a child, I remember various countdowns. How many more days until Christmas? Or my birthday? Even the space program had countdowns.

The excitement builds with every day of the calendar. With each tick of the clock.

Tick…tick…tick…

Kaleidoscopes

Scan_Pic0479

When I was a kid (shh, I’m still a big kid at heart) I loved kaleidoscopes. I loved the different shapes and colors I could see by twisting the end of the tube.

I am going through a kaleidoscope of a sorts. I will have two novels coming out soon, and I am unable to share this exciting time with my biggest cheerleader, my mom.

Whenever I’d get a rejection, she’d say, “They’re crazy.” Or, “They obviously don’t know what they’re missing.” My favorite Momism whenever I was blue or doubted myself?

“You can do it, because you’re my daughter!”

So as I grow closer to achieving my goals, after lots of hard work, revisions, and picking myself up and starting over, I am thinking of you, Mom. I am missing you, but know you are in Heaven and proud of me.

Because I’m your daughter!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

photo of flowers
I’m a Leo as the Zodiac goes, so it’s no surprise I love my birthday and everything that comes with it. But this year, I was pretty busy. Almost too busy to enjoy my birthday!

Between final edits and galleys for TWO books, I barely had time to sleep. But friends and family made sure I didn’t forget about my birthday as you can see by the above picture.

But as I updated my blog today, inputting my release date I realized my book birthday is in three weeks! Stay tuned for more exciting information about my upcoming release, The Crystal Slipper.

This is the best birthday EVER!
